Find a Business Search

The Find a Business search helps you find and confirm details about a multitude of commercial entities.The search returns the SmartLinx^® Business Report which contains information about the entities, including assets, addresses, associates, liens, bankruptcies, and other information. The report also contains links to the original source documents, as well as links to associated people, businesses, and locations.

Before you begin this task:

• Depending on your product subscription, you may not have access to this search.
• Your DPPA (Driver’s Privacy Protection Act), GLBA (Gramm‐Leach‐Bliley Act), and DMF (Death Master File) permissible use selections appear at the bottom of the form. Click the links if you need to change your permissible use selections before you run a new search.
• To view a sample report that is generated from this search, click Sample Report.
• Enter information in at least one field. When you enter information into multiple fields, your search precision increases.
• In most cases, completing the Company Name, City, State (or ZIP Code) fields return the best results.
• To restrict your search, reduce the value in the Radius field to a blank or null to search only the city or ZIP Code that you input, not adjacent cities or ZIP Codes.

Tip

If you prefer to type the information into less fields, then toggle the Single Name Entry Fields and Single City, State, ZIP Code Fields Search Options switches to ON to combine the fields. When the Single Name Entry Fields switch is ON, the multiple name fields are replaced with a single field. Enter the full name of the person. When the Single City, State, ZIP Code Fields switch is ON, the multiple location fields are replaced with a single input field. ZIP Code-only and State-only input works with this option enabled; however, City-only inputs may not perform as well as desired. For optimal results, use the two-character USPS (United States Postal Service) state abbreviation (for example, FL instead of Florida). City names that are also state names may be excluded from the query. For example, California OH searches OH.

1. Enter the name of the company.
2. Enter the TIN (taxpayer identification number) or the FEIN (federal employer identification number).
   This is the number that the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) uses to identify a company for tax purposes (for example, 111222333).
3. Enter the unique 12-digit identifier assigned to a non-human legal entity by LexisNexis^® Risk Solutions. If you know the LexID number, then you can quickly return information by entering the number in this field (for example, 0123-4567-8901).
4. Enter the street address with or without numbers.
   You can also include any other details (for example, Ave, St, Ct, or Blvd).
5. Enter the city.
6. Select the state.
7. Enter the ZIP Code (for example, 12345 or 12345-6789).
8. Select the distance to search from the address.
   The default distance is 15 miles. To pinpoint the search, select the blank space above 5 miles.
9. Enter a complete phone number with or without dashes, spaces, periods, or an area code (for example, 1234567891, (123)4567891, 123 456 7891, 123 4567891, 123-456-7891, 123.456.7891, 456-7891, or (123) 456 7891).
10. Toggle the Only Include Exact Phone Matches Form Settings switch to the ON position to include only exact telephone number matches.
11. Enter the name of the contact person for the company.

    Note	Nicknames and alternate spellings are automatically searched.

12. To associate your search with a customer or a topic, provide a label (for example, the customer's name or a topic name) in the Reference ID field.
    The History function lets you view the searches that are associated with a reference ID.

    Note	Your organization may require a reference ID in a particular format. Additionally, the contents of this field may be automatically completed or the field may have restrictions that are configured by your administrator.

13. Click Search.
